Founder and President

William J. Vakos, Jr. (Mr. Vakos)  formed W.J. Vakos & Company in 1976 after serving as a Marine Officer in the United States Marine Corps.  His education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of William & Mary and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) and J.D. (Law) degree from Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William & Mary.  For more than 40 years, Mr. Vakos has been instrumental in developing many projects across Virginia and within the Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania region, including Southpoint I and Southpoint II, Thornburg Towne Centre, Spotsylvania Courthouse Village and William Square.  Mr. Vakos is active in the community and his church. Mr. Vakos and his wife are longtime residents of Spotsylvania County.

Executive Vice President

William J. Vakos, III (Bill) joined W.J. Vakos & Company in 1991 after graduating from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  For the past 30 years, Bill has been involved in leasing, marketing, planning, development and management of our projects.  In the early 2000's the company began developing two of its premier projects, Southpoint and Spotsylvania Courthouse Village.  These communities today total nearly 800 acres of "true" mixed-use, bringing thousands of jobs to the area and greatly expanding Spotsylvania County's tax base.  You can find Bill leading the Commercial Brokerage and Property Management firm, Vakos Real Estate Services, which manages most of the Company's portfolio.

Bill is also active in his community where he serves on the Board of Directors for Virginia Partners Bank, as a Deacon and Chairman of the Stewardship Committee at Spotswood Baptist Church.  Bill and his wife are longstanding residents of Spotsylvania County.

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Sandra has been with W.J. Vakos & Company since 1984 and is currently the Vice President of Finance and Administration.  Sandi graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and currently oversees all administrative and financial needs of the Company. Sandi and her husband are longtime residents of the City of Fredericksburg. 

Senior Vice President of Construction

A.B. joined W.J. Vakos & Company in 1987 and provides the company with over 45 years of construction and development experience.  A.B. serves as Senior Vice President of Construction on all commercial construction projects including Southpoint I and II, Spotsylvania Courthouse Village and other projects in Fredericksburg, Richmond, Chesapeake, and other localities.  He oversees all phases of budgeting, design, building construction and site development.  A.B. and his wife are longtime Spotsylvania County residents.  

Vice President of Development

Darrell joined W.J. Vakos & Company in 2015 and provides the Company with over 40 years of engineering design, land surveying and land development experience. Darrell serves as Vice President of Development for all commercial and residential construction projects.  He oversees all phases of project civil design, site permitting and administration.  Darrell is a 1978 graduate of Virginia Polytechnical Institute with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and is currently licensed as a professional engineer in Virginia and as a land surveyor in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.  Darrell and his wife are well established residents of the City of Fredericksburg.

Vice President of Site Development 

David has been with W.J. & Company for over a decade, in the roles of Project Manager and Asset Manager.  He now oversees the defined areas of site development for our residential, commercial and mixed-use projects, with a dedicated responsibility of overseeing Spotsylvania Courthouse Village, the Company's 450 acre mixed-use town center project.  With over 24 years of civil and architectural design experience, he merges all aspects of the projects, cohesively working with other senior management.  David is also involved in representing the Company in the community, developing strategies for growth and planning for the future.  David and his wife reside in Spotsylvania County.

Executive Project Manager 

Collin has been with W.J. Vakos & Company since 2017.  He handles design, oversight and strategic planning on a 350,000 square foot mixed-use project in downtown Fredericksburg (William Square).  He represents the third generation of the Vakos family, frequently collaborating on all facets of project development with his father and grandfather.  Collin holds a Bachelor's degree in Marketing Analytics from Liberty University.  Collin and his wife Emma call Spotsylvania County home.
